Engage the UN and have the voice of business heard in the High-Level Dialogue on Energy 2021 process initiated by the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
The High-level Dialogue on Energy in 2021 represents the first global gathering on energy under the auspices of the General Assembly since the UN Conference on New and Renewable Sources of Energy held in Nairobi in 1981. It presents a historic opportunity to provide transformational action in the first years of the SDG Decade of Action and support the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
The overarching goal of the High-level Dialogue on Energy is to promote the implementation of the energy-related goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Dialogue should raise ambition and accelerate action towards the achievement of the SDG7 targets by catalysing innovative solutions, investments and multi-stakeholder partnerships in support of the Decade of Action to deliver the SDGs and accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
The UN is organising consultation workshops for business in order to coordinate engagement, share information and inform interested participants about the process. The goal is to create Energy Compacts (see the link for further information and schedules) which will bring together existing commitments and promote collaboration and knowledge sharing. This could be an interesting opportunity to engage further with the UN, accelerate progress on energy transition and renewable energy actions, and also get further recognition and promotion of existing commitments in the energy domain. The UN has invited IOE members and partners to join in this process as private sector participation and inputs are highly welcomed!
