Building alliances to end child labour
Location
Online
A joint digital event by IOE and Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation on 24 September at 14:00-15:30 (CET).
Aim of meeting
Progress on reducing the number of children in child labour has stalled recently despite decreasing by almost 100 million since 2000. There were some 152 million children working in child labour before the pandemic struck. The impact of COVID-19 will cause an increase in child exploitation, with the risk that hard-won gains will be wiped out. 2021 is the UN Year for the Elimination of Child Labour, and this event aims to build momentum for that by highlighting the urgent need for increased action on child labour. The event will showcase star performers, good practices that counter child labour and discuss potential future initiatives.
Specifically, this joint event aims to:
- Raise awareness of the current crisis and the need for a revived effort to counter child labour.
- Provide a space to discuss challenges and possible solutions to child labour and where concrete actions could be announced from major companies and/or employer bodies.
- Discuss possible future collaborations around the 2021 UN Year for the Elimination of Child Labour.
