New Publication Explores Employers' Experiences with Green Skills Policies

Learn about recent developments in Green Skills Policies across several countries and how IOE members have been working on this complex issue.

IOE, with support from the European Union, has released new guidance on policy developments and frameworks in the context of green skills and skills development for decarbonization. This timely collection of case studies dives into the experience in several countries in dealing with training and skills development with a particular focus on environmental activities and climate action. The case studies include an overview of employers’ activities and engagement that were developed in collaboration with our members through interviews and questionnaires.

The concept of green skills is still evolving and lacks a universally accepted definition, with ongoing research and analysis from various stakeholders. Different jurisdictions, like the EU for example, have their own classifications for green skills which makes international comparisons challenging.

This is why this type of review and analysis is an essential resource for employers and policymakers. It outlines experiences and policies for workforce transitions and for anticipation of new labour market developments, stressing the importance of collaboration and close engagement with employers.
